Special Education

"Before contacting Mountain State Justice, my meetings with my daughter’s school were emotional and frustrating; I felt like my concerns were not being heard, and it was me versus the six people from the school. Once Mountain State Justice joined me at my daughter’s IEP meetings, the school listened, and I was finally able to get services in place that my daughter needed to receive." — LaVon Butcher, Fayetteville, WV
We fight for justice in the classroom. We represent students with disabilities seeking access to education and school activities without discrimination.

We focus on addressing systemic problems in the school system that result in segregation and punishment, rather than learning, inclusion, and supportive services. Our cases have assisted children with disabilities seeking inclusion in the classroom and school activities, those facing unjust referral to the juvenile justice system, suspensions, and expulsions, and those trying to force their schools to simply provide them with the tools they need to succeed.
